Haute Couture was originally referred to Englishman Charles Frederick Worth’s work, produced in Paris during the mid nineteenth century. It is used to describe all high-fashion custom-fitted clothing, whether it is produced in Paris or in other fashion capitals. Haute couture is made to order for a specific customer, and it is usually made from high-quality, expensive fabric and sewn with attention to detail and finish, often using time-consuming, hand executed techniques.
Christian Dior’s Spring 2006 has to be one of my favorite Haute Couture collections. Maddam Butterfly was his source of inspiration. You see a lot of Japanese influence; geisha makeup, kimono, obi. I must say the origami folds on the apparel were amazing. I loved the bright accents used too.

I’m always blown away with the Haure Couture collections. The talents of designers is simply amazing, I would love to one day see the acutal garments or better yet attend a Christian Dior’s Haute Couture fashion show – how great would that be?! I’m sure I’d be in absolute awe.
